JOB DESCRIPTION
3D Artist
3D Artists work within a project team to create photorealistic 3D renderings and animations for Lightroom projects. They have a strong eye for detail, form, colour, and proportion and the ability to contribute to the storytelling and composition of images. They bring the following skills to the project:
- Strong modeling skills: experience reading and working off architectural plans; reading and working with CAD drawing files; experience with polygonal modeling
- Strong scene lighting skills: ability to adjust lighting to establish the desired style and mood of a 3D scene; ability to utilize light to direct the user’s eye within an image/scene; ability to define lighting purpose, placement, direction, shape, range, colour, quality, shadowing, drop-off quantity and brightness in a scene; ability to maximize efficiently of scene lighting for rendering purposes
- Strong texturing skills: ability to map geometry; manipulate UVs; adjust textures using Photoshop; create high quality/high resolution tile-able texture; create photo realistic shaders and animate textures
- Strong rendering skills: ability to render high-quality images at an optimal quality-to-time ratio; ability to monitor and queue renders to maximize frame distribution and efficiency; ability to control contrast, flickering and interlacing (24/30/60 frames per sec); ability to troubleshoot and correct failing rendering tasks
- Strong animation skills: experience and/or knowledge of cinematography
In addition, they require experience in:
- Compositing images using Photoshop and After Effects; ability to digitally manipulate rendered images to obtain final look and feel for a shot; ability to colour correct and assemble layered renders into a single integrated result
- Using and creating effects, such as: fire, fluids, complex foliage, dynamics, etc.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with Lightroom project team members to provide 3D rendered images and animations to the specifications of each project
- Keep the Project/Studio Manager informed, share information on project activity, identify issues and concerns, provide problem solving expertise
- Coordinate 3D project activities, ensure key project information is passed along to appropriate people, estimate effort for delivery, meet delivery deadlines, and proactively participate in problem identification and solving
- Understand client needs and expectations to ensure a successful project
- Understand what Lightroom needs from the client to ensure a successful project and inform project team leads of these requirements when required
- Inspire and support team members, accept personal responsibility for the project deliverables
- Apply skills and knowledge to the design and development of the project/solution
- Monitor deliverable progress, manage scope changes and changes requests, meet commitments, follow up, and be on time
Qualifications
3D Artists should have many or all of the following abilities:
- Technical diploma or relevant experience
- Minimum 1 year business experience
- 2-3 years of experience working in Maya
- Technical Skills: Autodisk Maya, Auto CAD, proficient with Microsoft Office, Mental Ray, Adobe Photoshop, Abode Illustrator, Mac and PC operating systems. Specific expertise in one or many of the following: modeling, texturing, lighting, creating effects, rendering and compositing
- Architectural experience/background are an asset
- Experience in an interactive/creative environment is an asset
